An elopement by Sean Oblizalo from Vows and Peaks

At least once a year, Colorado is blessed with an early dusting of snow during the fall. These early snowfalls are extra special for elopements because the photos are so dramatic with the white snow and fall colors. So when I met up with Tyler and Valerie for their Colorado winter elopement, we quickly realized how special this day would be: cold temperatures.

Let’s go. How did the day start?

We started with a first look as the dramatic clouds rolled over the mountain peaks behind them. First looks are my favorite part of every elopement, but the fresh snow and clouds made this extra special! Next, we hiked to a small tarn, where they privately shared their vows. My favorite part about this spot was we had zero wind, which was great for the reflections on the tarn. You are rarely up at 12,000 feet and have no wind. How lucky!

Changing locations – From snowy peaks into the woods

We then explored the surrounding area before heading down to the lower elevation to catch the fall colors on the aspen trees. It was quite the contrast from the snowy peaks, but that made this day so fun and unique—going from one dramatic scene to another with such different contrasts but so incredibly fun. Finally, we explored an aspen grove where they took in the booming yellows and warmed up under the Colorado sun!

Colorado is always a good choice for an adventure.

You really can’t write up a more unique elopement in Colorado. Valerie and Tyler embraced the cold morning while soaking in the crazy Colorado weather. It was the perfect day for these two to elope in Colorado!

An elopement by Sean Oblizalo from Vows and Peaks

“Yosemite is one of the most iconic places on the planet and is an amazing place to elope. The iconic granite walls make for some amazing photos and breathtaking views, so when Adam and Sarah reached out about their elopement, I knew they were in for a treat.

We went over a couple of different ideas of what a day can look like, and all decided to break up the day into two to maximize the views and adventure. We started with a sunrise ceremony at Glacier Point, where they shared their vows in front of the iconic peak, Half Down. This was a perfect spot that is accessible for friends and family to join in on. We then explored the area before taking a break mid-day.

We then met back up at sunset, where we hiked over to Taft Point. We explored and ran through the wooded forest on the hike over. You can’t miss those dust-kicking moments! We hit Taft at sunset, where we took in the stunning colors as the sunset behind the granite walls in the background. It was the perfect way to cap off an epic day. Yosemite National Park is by far one of my favorite parks, and the exploring never ends after more than 20 years here. I was so grateful to share these special moments with Adam and Sarah!”

Big Sur Elopement by Flora Gibson

“Taryn and Alex live in LA and absolutely fell in love with the Big Sur coast. After having to postpone their wedding due to COVID they decided to have an adventure elopement instead. They Stayed in Glen Oaks and we adventured along the coast to some of my favorite spots. Their elopement day was right around the harvest moon so I wanted to represent that even with the romantic fog.

An Epic Scenery

We had the coolest inverted fog layer most of their day, the low fog in Big Sur is my absolute favorite and sets the most romantic mood! I included some photos of their awesome hiking boots and epic dirt-stained dress showcasing their adventurous day.”

Lily Lake Wedding Colorado – An elopement story by Sean Oblizalo from Vows and Peaks

“I had been talking with Sara and Alex for some time leading up to their Lily Lake – Rocky Mountain National Park elopement. We had made a connection really quickly, and we had gone back and forth on tons of ideas together, ranging from locations, vendor suggestions, dress shopping, hiking trails in the park, and all-around ideas of what to do in Colorado!

It was really a fun way of getting to know each other before their Lily Lake Rocky Mountain National Park elopement, and I was so excited for the morning when we finally meet up on their special day! We met as the sun rose from the east for their first look, and they shared their vows as the alpenglow hit Longs Peak behind them. The morning was brisk, and the morning air pushed steam off the reflections from the lake behind them. It was an absolutely stunning morning with the calmest conditions and beautiful colors showing off for these two visitors.

Lake Tahoe Elopement // Are you ready for a stunning elopement? Lake Tahoe is the destination of today’s elopement photographed by Ruthanne Zouboukos.

Ruthanne Zouboukos: “Sam reached out to me a little more than 24 hours before their intimate and stormy elopement on Lake Tahoe – and I was so excited! If you’ve ever wondered how short notice is too short notice — here you go. There is no such thing with me! It was their 10 year anniversary, and when I arrived Sam also informed me that her parents eloped in Lake Tahoe years before, too! I love stories like this one. Sam’s dress was by the same designer who created Kate Middleton’s – swoooooon. I was obsessed with the details and her classic style. When I arrived, John was still out picking up food for later that afternoon. As he knocked on the door, Sam was a little nervous and opened it to find her soon to be husband with an armload of “all the white flowers they had – I couldn’t leave any behind!” Romantic, right???

Right as we started to make our way out for portraits, the sun shone through in a small break of the clouds, and we all smiled. I’ve photographed a lot of elopements in a lot of conditions, and every time – without fail – the sun comes out for the big moments. Everything about thier elopement was just “classic” Tahoe – from the house they rented, the outfits they donned and the color of the Lake that day. It’s perfection, in every way.”

Colorado Wedding // A few weeks ago, we published our best Colorado wedding venues. Our LOOKSLIKEFILM member Michael Liedtke photographed a beautiful wedding at The Barn at the Memorial Park.

Michael Liedtke: “This was my first time photographing a wedding in Colorado and to say that it met every one of my expectations would be an understatement! I freaking LOVE the mountains (if I’ve never made that clear enough – cough cough) so to be able to photograph a wedding as beautiful as this one just West of Denver in the heart of The Rocky Mountains was a dream come true!!

Margot and Austin are both such incredibly kind, loving, and extremely talented individuals and to be able to work for such incredible artists like them was amazing! I don’t usually drool over details all that much, BUT there were so many details interlaced throughout this wedding that were specifically designed and orchestrated by Margot and Austin in order to make their day even more unique to themselves. Halfway down you’ll see a very unique looking bar at the reception with very intricate and puzzled together wood along with a very intricate wood burning design – if you’re thinking it then you’re correct – 100% handmade by Margot and Austin! It’s personal details like this that truly get me excited!

In addition to details such as the handmade bar, there was definitely no shortage of reception details from centerpieces to flower arrangements that helped bring the entire day together as well! So if you’re looking for vendors to work within the Denver/Boulder area, you’ll find a full vendor list of the other crazy talented artists I had the pleasure of working with listed at the bottom of this blog.

All in all, this was a truly unforgettable wedding, and I can not wait to get back to Colorado again for another epic wedding!”

“Taylor & Taylor were kind enough to invite me to come photograph their destination wedding in Hilo, Hawaii. They rented a home with an incredible backyard to have their ceremony with an epic waterfall view. They had a small wedding with their close friends and family along with their two beautiful daughters. Boy Taylor gifted his bride with a heart-shaped locket with a photo of her father inside (her “something new”) Girl Taylor had a piece of her mothers wedding dress sewn inside of her dress as her “something old”, borrowed earrings from her mother in law and her “something blue” was a blue gem on her garter. They also had a shell they made into a necklace to have one of their daughters wear to hold their rings. This was the same shell used to hold the engagement ring when boy Taylor proposed. Their rings were the perfect fit for their gorgeous Hawaii dream wedding, and they wrote their vows to read to each other privately.”

Forest Wedding // These two sweethearts quickly bonded over their love of adventure and love of Game of Thrones. Watching them giggle with happiness on their forest wedding was precious and telling of how much they loved each other. The moment they saw each other during their first look, they felt a huge sigh of relief. This was what they were here for. They were not here for the beautiful hexagonal ceremony arch they built or not for the macrame table runners that her friend handmade. Not for all the details that were quickly forgotten about. Amber and Clark were here for each other. And it was so clear by the way that they just melded into each others’ arms.  Holding each other tight from the first kiss to the last dance.  Showing the whole world that their love was a once of a lifetime kind of love.

Amber and Clark got married amongst the majestic redwoods and with the sweetest crew of family and friends. They danced into the night and also adventured out the next day for an epic adventure on the beach bluffs.  They were soaking in all the California sun until they drenched in the ocean waves, watching the moon rise above the horizon.
